J.Crew Factory Reviews - April 2013 by jcrewjd featuring a lace shift dress
Here are some quick reviews of the factory items pictured in the above polyvore set:
Eyelet skirt: WINNER! I have never had success with factory pencil skirts cuz they are always too short. This hits at the top of my knee and fits like a dream. TTS, took a 6.
Dotted chambray shirt - wow, this fits well! Lately, I have taken a small in factory perfect shirts. This was no different. The tailoring is exceptional.
Blue/purple plaid shirt - this is the dressy shirt material. I was drawn to this for some reason. Not getting it, though. Don't need! TTS in small. 100% cotton which is nice.
4" garment dyed denim shorts - FABULOUS! Size down, I got a 4, and for reference, NONE of my existing size 4 bottoms fit me right now. They feel like they'll stretch out a bit with wear. These are extremely flattering.
Factory ceces: these aren't online, but there is a dupe of this color at factory and they seem the same as retail.
Factory layering tank = exactly the same as vintage cotton tank.
Factory linen shirt - loooove this. It is really long and so great for a tall person like myself. It did pull at the bust in a small, though, so I got a medium. In the medium, it was still nicely tailored enough to not look baggy. The white was not see through and the material is nice and substantial.
ALL of the dresses were SO HIGH WAISTED. Ok, so I am 5'10", but even on someone who is like about 5'7'" these would probably look ridiculous. They were all TTS, the lace cora slightly larger than the rest. They were all very pretty, and I am mad that I can't wear any of them. Boo hoo.

Have you bought anything from Factory lately? Their offerings have improved greatly over the past couple of years, if you ask me. My #1 pick from this batch of try ons is the linen blouse. It is so nice and I wouldn't be surprised if J.Crew is the only store in the whole outlet mall offering women's 100% linen shirts, let alone for such a low price (on sale).
I'm so glad that the Eyelet Skirt worked out for you!!! I think that it's a fabulous skirt!
ReplyDeleterynetta, it really is!
DeleteITA about the linen shirt. If I didn't have several of the retail versions I would have easily bought the Factory ones. Sad the dresses didn't work for you. I also like that the Eyelet is a very strong red. The Factory is stepping up their quality which is great as the deals are so much better.
ReplyDeleteaudreybella, the color is my favorite part of the eyelet skirt... it's so gorgeous! Hooray for factory.
DeleteJCrewJD, I'm so glad to read this review of the 4" shorts, especially. I love that inseam length, being only 5'4" and a smidge and being short-shinned. I forgot to try them on while at the Crewlet and have been wondering about sizing.
ReplyDeleteWould love your recommendations, if you have time, for a Crewlet "first job out of college interview" ensemble for my younger son's 5'11" slim-but-very-endowed serious longtime college girlfriend (probably gonna be our daughter-in-law in a couple of years). She's graduating from my favorite college in May (go UNC Tar Heels!) in May and then is moving to Atlanta to search for a public relations job and be near her sweetie. She's a beautiful, bright girl who doesn't have two nickels to rub together and doesn't know how to dress for her height or how to dress for an interview. So -- son's idea, I love it -- her graduation gift from me & Hubs & my son is gonna be a day of beauty (makeup at Bobbi Brown), lunch and an interview outfit. I think the Crewlet might be a great place to start looking. Son #2 is a huge J. Crew fan & wearer, has great taste and a great "eye", and loves to shop (yessir, I have raised a goooood husband for this or some other lovely girl), and it should be a very fun day.
It also occurred to me that she might need a Tall jacket -- can you wear Crewlet or JC jackets in regular or do you need Tall?
If you have any ideas PM me on Polyvore or e-mail me at tarheelmomspins@gmail.com. Mucho appreciated shugga!!! :-)
I just sent you an e-mail!
DeleteThe FAIL cracked me right up! Yay for finding some keepers!!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha... it was such an apt description wasn't it? Heading in this weekend to take advantage of the 50% off... such a deal!
DeleteI want to check out the dress in the garden floral print - so pretty! I'm only 5'2" so hopefully I'll have better luck with it!
ReplyDeleteI hate it that so many skirts are too short.
