I took my current regular size 6 and it fits just like a shift dress should. I love it, but if I could change one thing it'd be the lining (it is polyester). I have been sweating in this thing all day which means it will have to be cleaned after every wear... not thrilled. Why oh why couldn't they have lined it in cotton? I don't care about poly linings for sleeveless dresses but for one with sleeves... we're talking direct pit contact... NOT PRETTY. Do you think I could hand wash this puppy? It says dry clean, (not dry clean only, phew), which to me means hand wash, because I loathe dry cleaning for many reasons. But with the textured, woven fabric, I don't know. Anyway, here are some pics.
OOTD 5/7/13 by jcrewjd featuring j. crew jewelry
I wore it with simple jewelry which I think works, but I may wear a patterned scarf next time. Here it is on gigi and m from Shopping with M.
Had to show the shoes because they are one of my all time favorites. They are old school J.Crew. I paid over $100 for them which I rarely do for shoes, but they are worth every penny. The all leather construction is so comfy and I just love the color. I wish they'd bring this style back, only with the older, higher quality snakeskin instead of the cheapo stuff they use now! Or they could just do leather... I'd buy them. They are dressier than a sandal, but not as stifling as a closed flat. Perfect for wearing to casual offices in the summer.

Speaking of rarely paying over $100 for shoes, oops, I did today. But it's cool, because:
a) it's my birthday this month, and thanks to audreybella, I am calling these my birthday shoes;
b) They are just over 1/3 of the original price, deal!;
c) they are almost the exact shade and style of the peacock J.Crew Juliet heels, which I will never ever find in my size because they came out over four years ago; and
d) they are actually better than the Juliets, because they have a leather lining and sole. See? Totally justified. Ha!
I go to Marshalls at least once a week. It is just down the street from my office, and a worker told me they get four trucks per week. I don't want to miss anything good! And it is a higher end store, in an affluent area, which means they get the good stuff. Like Kate Spade Shoes. Today was my lucky day, I guess, because they had these beauties for $129.99 (OUCH, I am cheap, and it hurt, but worth it):
Kate Spade New York Shelly (see more round toe heels)
Oh, hello. You are beautiful. Compare to Juliets:
They even have the exact same heel height! I am thinking they will look great with my biennial and J.Crew knockoff groopdealz necklace, too.
I have really wanted a pair of turquoise heels or wedges for a while and after trying several from J.Crew and Madewell which completely sucked, I think I finally found a winner. I don't really enjoy heels over 3" which is so limiting, but I am grateful some designers make cute lower heels!
The only problem is, now I want all of my shoes to be super nice, all leather like my new Kate Spades. Sigh.
How do you like my new shoes? Have you splurged on anything lately that was completely worth it?

Happy Birthday Month to you and your birthday shoes are excellent. I have a pair of black patent KS shoes and they are so comfy and perfect. I think it's best to splurge on shoes, feet get tired!
ReplyDeleteDani, your description is dead on, comfy and perfect! It is important to have good quality shoes, which means I am slowly getting rid of the last of my uncomfortable J.Crew ones. It is liberating, actually.
DeleteYou're welcome! Those are Fabulous Birhtday Shoes! The color is lovely and I like that it extends to the heel. I wasn't a fan of the wooden heel on the Juliet's. Kate does make a wonderful shoe. I miss having a nicer Marshall's nearby. I always found some great deals.
ReplyDeleteHappy Bithday month to you!
Kate does do a wonderful shoe, that's for sure!
DeleteWell happiest of birthdays! Fab shoes and great price! Love them! And the dress is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks WMM! Love the dress, can't wait to wear it lots. It seems like a dress that would suit you as well!
DeleteHappy birthday month to you! I love that gorgeous color and agree that KS shoes are worth a bit of splurge. :) They look amazing next to the bag and necklace too!
ReplyDeleteThanks m!
DeleteHappy birthday month! Good shoes are always worth it! Enjoy:)
ReplyDeleteThank you A! I have to agree with you on that one :)
DeleteHappy happy birthday
ReplyDeleteThanks fromfcdc!
DeleteHappy birthday month! I've always been a big Marshall's fan...almost too much since I also had one on my drive home for years...easy to get in to trouble! I'd say you deserve a splurge for your birthday and they definitely seem as if they'll fit nicely in your wardrobe. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteshopmurphy, it is soooo easy to get into trouble! Did I mention that there is a TJ Maxx across the street from this particular Marshall's? It's double trouble!
DeleteHappy Birthday JCrewJD! I hope your special day is wonderful. Love the turquoise color, especially with coordinating accessories.
ReplyDeleteThanks xoxo!
DeleteBelated happy birthday to you, J.CrewJD! I have no doubt your new shoes are much more comfortable than the Juliets. Yours are beauties ... enjoy!
ReplyDeletethanks tiffany rose! P.S., my tresco floral toothpicks are waiting on my doorstep today, so excited! My crazy pants collection is growing...
DeleteCongrats on the crazy pants. I got my tresco the other day. Can I just say LOVE ... I'm even thinking I'd snag a second pair if one came back in my size as backup, am I as crazy as my pants?
DeleteHAHA, no, I don't think that's crazy. They are so cheap now... why not!? The print is just so amazing. I have the pants, crewcuts tote, purse mirror, and silk scarf... still need the shirt and possibly skirt. I can't get enough!
DeleteI have the shirt and you are going to be so, so envious ... I have some Crewcuts shoes coming! Hoping enough of the amazing print shows on the shoes. It is a beautiful print and very happy, it cheers me up.
DeleteI am SO JEALOUS you can wear the crewcuts shoes. Oh man! You best show them on your blog!
DeleteYou best come over soon. ;)
DeleteHappy belated birthday!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is adorable!
Thank you, Rose!
DeleteHappy Birthday! You totally deserve those shoes. The scattered dot looks fantastic on you. I likes the jewels, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks gigi! In my googling, I saw that you did a review of the kate spade shoes long ago... probably when they were actually current. Hehe. I am a little late to the party!
Deletemy Marshall's has had all kinds of $$$ Kate Spade stuff- blouses, jackets, dresses, etc., all beautifully sewn, but I do not really NEED anything, so I have been talking myself out of the pieces I like.... :(
