Jello buttons

Reading other like minded women's blogs is delightful and makes me happy. It also causes me to buy things I normally either never would have known existed, or would not have noticed had I seen them. (It's a good thing, actually, because sometimes I am blinded by J.Crew and don't think to look at other stores.) The hot pink pants fall into the first category, but thanks to WMM, I was enlightened and able to purchase these delightful pants for myself!

Tank - J.Crew old ruffled favorite tank, 2008
Sweater - J.Crew Tessa sweater jacket, Holiday 2007 (aka, the best season ever for J.Crew)
Pants - Gap Broken-in straight khakis, size 6 tall
Shoes - J.Crew Lulu ballet flats, 2008

Before we get to talking about the pants, can we just admire this sweater for a second? I mean, just read the description: "Cotton in a 9-gauge double-knit with big, shiny buttons." Double knit cotton? When was the last time J.Crew did double knit cotton? Too long ago... and the buttons. Not only are they indeed big and shiny, but they are striped:
I can hardly stand such an adorable detail. They remind me of the jello my mom used to make every Christmas, it looked like this:
It was delicious, too. Good memories! (here is the recipe, which is also where I found the photo.)

Back to the pants. They run large, as stated by many reviewers on the Gap website, a detail I chose to ignore. So, they are held up by a belt today! I actually like the way the look even though the waist is a little big so it works for me. Many sizes are sold out but they do popback and there are promos constantly. Highly recommend. The fabric is lightweight without being flimsy, and the color is so saturated, I just love it. It's been years since I've bought pants from the Gap, but in the last week I have purchased three pairs! So, thank you again WMM, for reintroducing me to the Gap!

Have you made any great finds lately at retailers you don't normally frequent? What other retailers out there am I missing?! As a loyal J.Crew Aficionada, I am afraid I am really missing out sometimes.

  1. Talbots is occasionally surprising. I had written them off as too preppy for me - but on occasion they do some very cute lines. I also would never have tried Land's End Canvas were it not for a fellow blogger's recommendation.

    1. I <3 Talbots too. I seem to get one or two items from them each season, on super clearance of course.

  2. I occasionally buy jeans at The Gap and purchased their sexy boyfriend jeans this season and like them. I also bought two Boden dresses this summer and am happy with the quality and the variety of skirts and dresses that they offer in tall sizes. I don't need much this season, but J Crew is low on my radar for the first time in years. I'm loosing patience with their lack of quality and tall sizing.

    1. I love that Boden offers talls. I haven't tried anything from them other than shoes, but the new arrivals are really tempting. I am quite disgrunted about J.Crew's lack of tall sizes, too. Grrr!

  3. I LOVE the hot pink pants. Every woman needs a pair. I have two pairs of flaming pink cropped ankle pants, one print and one plain, from Loft.

I actually surprised myself by wandering into the J. Crew factory store in early August...and buying stuff. And wishing I could afford to buy more :o

  4. Thanks for the shout-out! I am so glad you loved them! I am like you - I liked them baggy. It is nice when you get reviews or exposure to items you would otherwise never have heard of. They look great on you!

  5. Hi JCJD, I found your blog thru Dani's this AM and was so pleased to see that jacket! I got it on sale spring '08 and with a rewards card it was $20! Still going strong, too. I LOVE those buttons. That year I wore it over a citron jacquard dress from Anthro to a wedding; I don't shop there usually as I find it overwhelming so I don't think you are missing anything. You look great in the pink pants too.

    1. Hi Lane! Welcome! Anthro doesn't do it for me, either. The stores are very overwhelming! Glad I am not the only one who thinks so. The sweater is a gem, I hope to have it for many more years.

  6. INC has some nice so-called "skinny" jeans in a few fall colors... they are slim cut but not obnoxiously so, and they are more a cotton sateen than denim so that they look very finished and neat- deep violet, lavender, russet and an orangey-yellow brown which looks better than it sounds.

    1. Ooh! Do they sell that at Macy's? I feel like I have seen that brand there.

  7. So that's what you mean by jello buttons! I agree delightful details like those buttons are what's missing with JC things of late. Not only aren't there lovely little surprises, fine fabrics and careful construction are missing too, boo hiss.

As a loyal JCA, I too have been venturing out of my comfort zone and found some success with Kate Spade and Boden.

    1. Yes, I miss all of the old silk piping they used to do in the wonderful tie silks. Sigh.

I love Kate Spade but it is too expensive, unless of course I can find it at TJ Maxx, which I occasionally do! Boden looks great this fall. Thank you for the suggestions!

  8. So funny. I actually tried those(or something similar at the Gap yesterday, after not shopping there for ages. When I looked at my fall clothes I realized I I have too many pants from J Crew that just fit a little "off", and I decided to look around. The GAP pants are the best fit that I have found in a while. They look great on you!
