On this, the last day of the J.Crew extra 40% off, I found myself not buying anything and actually wandering to another retailer. I guess I am shopped out when it comes to summer items and ready for fall. Land's End relieved me of a substantial chunk of money that would otherwise have been blown on pretty summer dresses at J.Crew by sending me an e-mail alerting me to an extra 30% off sale! Usually, they just have 20% off which is not enough of a discount for me, because I'm cheap. Also, I really don't need anything, so to justify a purchase, it needs to be cheap. Like, really cheap.
Land's End also marked down a bunch of items, some by 50% or more from their last sale price. So, if you're all shopped out at J.Crew (actually, I don't think that is possible, but we can pretend, can't we?) and looking ahead to fall, there are plenty of items at Land's End from last fall/winter that can be had for just a few dollars!
Use code DRIFTER and pin 4444
Here are the fall items I purchased:
I bought the gray and purple colors. I am lazy, my work environment is casual, and knit skirts that don't look sloppy are therefore my friend. I think this fits the bill!
Finally, I bought this skirt in teal and persian rose. This has been on my radar for a while but since I already have about 12 J.Crew wool pencil skirts, I wasn't too tempted. But for $27.99, they got me! It looks alot like the J.Crew Francie skirt from 2008, and I am hoping it is actually nice in person. I could really use more a-line skirts... pencil skirts get really uncomfortable when you sit at a desk all day!
But I doubt they will live up to my expectations, which are that they will be as nice as the J.Crew double serge wool and not be frumpy. But the teal, doesn't it sort of remind you of the upcoming heathered blue color that will be released this fall? KnitYarns posted about it here.
To be honest, many of my Land's End orders have been returned in their entirety, based on fit. I guess I am just such a J.Crew addict that other retailers can never be good enough unless they are exactly like J.Crew. Luckily, there is no risk involved in ordering from Land's End. No final sale, and you can return the items to Sears. Which is good, because based on the reviews, there is about a 90% chance that this baby will be a return:
Anyone else straying from J.Crew today? Do you like my picks?
I am staying away from JC today, But I didn't on Monday. :D
ReplyDeleteLove your picks, esp. the dress! Hope they work out for you!
Muahahaha... yes, I could never wait until the last day of the promo to order. More like, place an order each day!
DeleteI've bought all their shirts, all their cafe cardigans, all their chinos and jeans. Yes, all sizes and colors. LEC has done back to back promos for the past two months and sooner or later, I've bought all of it. My average purchase price for these items has been about $15. to $18. per item. Some items were marked down temporarily and marked back up so it was a matter of checking daily. Love LEC! Love J. Crew too but these prices have been really good!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, that's awesome! How are the cafe cardigans? I had brown in my cart but it wasn't there by the time I checked out, boo!
DeleteI should correct, I didn't buy all sizes, I meant all colors in my size and on the slouch chinos, I bought two sizes, the larger for when I want to roll them up and belt them. On the Slim Leg jeans, I preferred the lighter color but my son's girlfriend loved the darker color. The white jeans are very good too.
DeleteThe cafe cardigans are great, at least as good if not better quality than the Jackies (and I have many Jackies). They refresh stock each night Monday through Thursday (not as consistent on Friday-Sunday) so if you don't see a color today, you can later. The secret is to check...okay, fine, at 11:50 p.m. PST. That's how I've managed to get everything over the past two months. They are $16.99 and then added promos have taken them down to $12. or so - almost ridiculous but I love it!
ReplyDeleteAlso, many Canvas items end up over at the Sale section of the Lands End site, so you have to check both. Some items are so well-priced and yet have lots of stock because people don't know.
Also another secret? When they move to Clearance pricing, the reviews often get deleted. But if you Google the item, the reviews can be found. So say you are looking for all the reviews for an item you know nothing about - Google it and all the reviews will come back. There were over 300 reviews for the Heritage cardigan when I Googled it.
Thank you for the wonderful tips! I was wondering where the reviews went when items went to clearance. That is really annoying, but I am glad to hear they are still floating out there on the internet. I just wish that I didn't have to be awake a 2:50am my time to get popbacks, grrr! Maybe they will still be around at 6:30 when I get up? I am going to check tomorrow! Thanks again!
DeleteOh, and I have an entire drawer dedicated to jackies... so, I know what you mean!
I haven't bought anything with the 40% promo...but I did some damage with the last 30% off. :o)
ReplyDeleteI got the LEC email and almost got the striped knit dress but I'm afraid it may be too short.
Such willpower! :D
DeleteCute things! I haven't looked there in a while. I love the printed dress but I think I tried it on in store once and something about it didn't work on me. I hope you will have better luck.
ReplyDeleteMy hopes for the printed dress are not high, but I couldn't resist at least trying it!
DeleteI ordered that scoopneck floral dress, too, but I gave the odds of returning it 75%, based on the fact that most folks who didn't like it were shorter. Let us know how you liked it! I will check back. Also, I have a few of the cafe cardis from LEC- they are not stretchy like Jacki- so they don't make you as hot.
ReplyDeletecarol, I am sadly returning it! It was much cuter in person than I thought it would be, but the top part was EXTREMELY unflattering. It made me look like a linebacker.
